Dreams FC forward, John Anwi, has taken a trip down memory lane as he prepares to face Zamalek in the CAF Confederation Cup, reminiscing about his successful stint in Egypt.
The veteran forward, who returns to Cairo where he achieved significant success, fondly recalls his time in North Africa, where he scored an impressive 102 goals. Anwi represented esteemed clubs such as Al Ahly, Ismailly, Pyramids FC, and Misr El-Makasa during his nearly decade-long tenure in Egypt.
Reflecting on his experiences, Anwi expressed his excitement about returning to Egypt to face Zamalek, a team he faced numerous times during his tenure with Al Ahly and other clubs. He recalls scoring against Zamalek in previous encounters, adding to his anticipation for the upcoming match.
Having returned to Ghana in 2023 to join Premier League side Dreams FC, Anwi has played a pivotal role in the team’s journey to the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup, marking their debut participation in the competition.
“This campaign has been very good considering our humble beginnings. A small club competing in three competitions simultaneously—we’re in the FA Cup quarterfinals, the Confederations Cup, and performing well in the Ghana league,” Anwi remarked.
Despite the team’s relative inexperience, Anwi believes their progress to the semi-finals is a testament to their hard work and dedication. He considers this season a success for the club, highlighting the achievement of reaching this stage in continental competition.
