Medeama winger Derrick Fordjour expressed his team’s objective of making an impact in the upcoming CAF Champions League campaign.
Medeama, who won the previous Ghana Premier League, will be representing Ghana in Africa’s elite club competition. They have been drawn against Nigerian side Remo Stars in the first preliminary round.
This is the first time the Tarkwa-based club will compete in the prestigious tournament, having previously participated in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2014 and 2017.
Fordjour acknowledged the challenge ahead, recognizing the quality of their opposition but stated that they are determined to make Ghanaians proud in Africa.
“We know it’s not going to be easy for us but we are determined to make Ghanaians proud in Africa. There is a bit of pressure because opposition teams can boast of quality but we will stay focus to excel” he told Kessben FM
Medeama’s previous involvement in CAF inter-club competitions was in 2016 when they reached the group stages after eliminating South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns in the playoffs.
The first leg matches against Remo Stars are scheduled for 18 to 20 August, with the second leg encounters set for 25 to 27 August. If they win this tie, Medeama will face Guinean giants Horoya AC in the second preliminary round, with the ultimate goal of making it to the group stage.
