Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei has paid tribute to the Porcupine Warriors for the crucial role they played in his development and success during his professional career.
The 36-year-old, now the assistant coach of Heart of Lions, enjoyed a decorated playing career, both domestically and across Africa, before hanging up his boots. Nii Adjei featured prominently for Kotoko between 2007 and 2012, where he won three Ghana Premier League titles and established himself as one of the finest midfielders in the country.
His impressive performances earned him a move to DR Congo giants TP Mazembe, where he reached new heights—winning the CAF Champions League and later lifting the CAF Confederation Cup twice. He also had a successful spell in Morocco with Wydad Casablanca.
In a recent interview, Nii Adjei reflected on his journey and credited Kotoko for laying the foundation for his achievements.
“Asante Kotoko shaped my career. At Kotoko, players are criticized heavily for every defeat, and that makes you mentally strong. You always have to fight for victory, and that builds character,” he said.
Now in coaching, Nii Adjei played a significant role in Heart of Lions’ impressive 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign, helping the team finish second on the league table—a remarkable achievement for the Kpando-based side.
