Ghanaian striker Dominic Oduro has joined Major Soccer League side San Jose Earthquakes from Montreal Impact in exchange for forward Quincy Amarikwa.
The Goonies who announced the capture of the Ghanaian international said Montreal will retain a percentage of Oduro’s budget charge for the 2018 season.
“I would like to thank Quincy and wish him and his family the best of luck in Montreal,” said Earthquakes general manager Jesse Fioranelli. “We look forward to welcoming Dominic to San Jose. He’s a proven MLS veteran that has pace and a solid record in terms of scoring and assisting goals.”
Oduro, 32, ranks top-40 in Major League Soccer history in games played (341 – 14th), shots (496 – 25th) and goals scored (63 – 36th) since entering the league in 2006. He is one of 28 players in league history to record 60+ goals (63) and 30+ assists (32) in his career.
Quakes forward Chris Wondolowski (140 – 1st) and Oduro (63 – 9th) are two of the 10 highest-scoring players currently in MLS and have combined to record 203 career goals, most of any active teammates in the league.
The Ghanaian sprinter has played for the Montreal Impact since 2015, tallying 15 goals and six assists in 79 appearances.
During his stay at the club, Oduro helped Impact to reach the CONCACAF Champions League Final in 2015 and the MLS Eastern Conference Finals in 2016.
He featured in five matches for Montreal this season.
The Ghanaian international has featured for numerous MLS clubs throughout his career, including Toronto FC (2014), Columbus Crew SC (2013-14), Chicago Fire (2011-12), Houston Dynamo (2009-11), New York Red Bulls (2009) and FC Dallas (2006-08). He scored at least five goals in all but one season from 2010-16 and tallied four or more assists five times between the period of 2009-2016.
Oduro, attended Prempeh College and University of Ghana before transferring to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 2004.
He appeared in 41 matches for the Rams, tallying 18 goals and five assists, earning the 2004 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year award and Third Team All-America recognition.
He also played for Richmond Kickers Future in the USL Premier Development League in 2005, scoring 16 goals in 13 games. He was later drafted in the second round (No. 22 overall) of the 2006 MLS SuperDraft by FC Dallas.
Oduro made one international cap for the Black Stars team when he featured in Ghana’s 1-1 draw against Chile in 2012.
