Former Ghana International Augustine Arhinful has chided the technical team of the Black Stars for publicly criticizing players in the aftermath of the team’s agonizing slim margin away defeat to Kenya.
A Nicholas Opoku own goal handed the Harambee Stars the maximum points in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers on Saturday.
In the wake of Ghanaians getting frustrated and disappointed at the turn of events, the assistant Coach of the Team, Ibrahim Tanko lashed at some lackadaisical attitude of some players eventually fingering them as a reason the Black Stars lost the game.
Tanko in an interview slated some players for what he termed lack of commitment and a poisoned attitude. He subsequently suggested such players risked missing out on future call-ups if they don’t turn a new leaf.
However, in a sharp response to Tanko’s verbal outpouring, Augustine Arhinful, speaking in an interview with Radio 360’s Israel Fordah picked apart the technical team for not dealing with the matter appropriately.
According to him, such issues should not be brought to the limelight and believes it behooves the technical team to deal with such matters internally.
Arhinful thinks it’s improper for Coaches to publicly berate players for poor performance and advised Coach Kwesi Appiah and his team not to emulate the Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho who is a reference point in this stead.
”The technical team it self have to be very careful the way they communicate to the public” he said.
