Dreams FC head coach, Karim Zito, remains optimistic about his team’s chances of stopping Asante Kotoko in their upcoming Ghana Premier League encounter on Saturday, December 21, at the Tuba AstroTurf in Kasoa.
In a media briefing, Zito acknowledged the technical prowess of Kotoko, describing them as a physically and tactically sound team. However, he is confident in his team’s ability to compete against the league giants, especially with the motivation that comes from facing a top club like Kotoko.
“We all saw Kotoko against Hearts of Oak. Tactically, technically, they are very sound. Physically, they are very sound. So, you have to draw your own program on how to stop them and then make a meaningful impact after stopping them,” Zito said. “It’s not just about stopping them; it’s about stopping them and then getting the chance to play freely. We need to track them and make sure we have the space to play.”
Zito emphasized the importance of respecting Kotoko off the field, but pointed out that once the game begins, his team will treat it as just another challenge. “We have to give them the necessary respect outside the game, but within the game, we know we are playing Kotoko. It’s a big game for us,” he added.
Dreams FC made an impressive statement last season, achieving a double over Kotoko, winning both encounters without conceding a single goal. Zito’s side will be eager to maintain that strong record, especially as Kotoko has struggled in their recent league meetings.
However, Dreams FC faces a difficult season so far, sitting second from bottom with just 12 points from 12 matches, having won only two games. Despite their struggles, Zito remains hopeful that his team can pull off another impressive result against the Porcupine Warriors.
