Rising Ghanaian midfielder Abdul Aziz Issah made his senior national team debut on Saturday as Ghana cruised to a 4-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place playoff of the 2025 Unity Cup at the G-Tech Stadium in Brentford, West London.
The 19-year-old Barcelona B midfielder was introduced in the 66th minute, replacing fellow debutant Lawrence Agyekum. His appearance marked a major milestone in a blossoming career that has seen him rapidly rise through the ranks of Ghanaian football.
Issah earned his maiden Black Stars call-up from head coach Otto Addo following an outstanding run with Dreams FC in the CAF Confederation Cup and his instrumental role in Ghana’s gold medal triumph at the 2023 African Games with the U-20 team.
His debut reflects the technical team’s strategic focus on integrating emerging talent into the senior national setup as part of Ghana’s rebuilding efforts following recent setbacks, including the failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana delivered a dominant performance against the Caribbean side, with goals from captain Jordan Ayew and debutants Razak Simpson, Mohammed Fuseini, and Lawrence Agyekum securing a convincing win. The result came as a strong response to the team’s earlier 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in the tournament.
Issah’s introduction to senior international football not only capped an impressive year for the young midfielder but also signaled a promising future as he begins his journey with the Black Stars.
