Arriving in Ghana, Dutchman Martin Koopman is set to assume the role of head coach for Hearts of Oak.
Following the departure of Slavko Matic, the Ghana Premier League club has been actively seeking a new leader.
Slavko Matic, who had taken over from Samuel Boadu mid-season on a two-year contract, left the club due to disappointing results.
Former assistant coach David Ocloo stepped in as interim manager, guiding the team to a 12th-place finish last season before amicably parting ways with the club.
Among those considered for the vacant position were Nigerian coach Paul Aigbogun and Tunisian coach Khalil Abid.
Martin Koopman was formally introduced as the new head coach to the players and the rest of the technical at Pobiman today, Wednesday August 16, 2023.
Technical director Rene Hiddink is believed to have recommended Koopman to the club’s leadership.
The 67-year-old, a former Netherlands defender, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously managed teams such as AS Vita Club, FC Den Bosch, and BV Veendam, as well as having managerial stints in Aruba and Saudi Arabia.
