Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has emphasized the need for support for Otto Addo to succeed as the head coach of Ghana’s senior national team.
Addo, who previously managed Borussia Dortmund, guided the Black Stars to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Mali in Bamako and a thrilling 4-3 win against the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Stadium. These results have moved the team to second place in Group I.
Agyemang-Badu sees potential in Addo’s performance and believes that with support, he can build a strong team. “In his second stint, he said he’s coming to build a team for Ghana. When he leaves, he will leave a legacy,” Agyemang-Badu told Joy Sports.
“He’s bringing in promising new players. We’ve seen the two games, and it’s been a while since we won two consecutive games, especially an away game. So, we can build on that.”
However, Agyemang-Badu also noted areas that need improvement. “There are a lot of lapses in the team, and we can’t ignore that. He’s well-experienced, and this is his second stint. He knows where he needs to strengthen the team. We will support him.”
He expressed his personal support for Addo, stating, “I’m a fan of him. For a fact, I believe he will build a good team for us. He should remain as decisive as usual and make decisions that will benefit both him and the team.”
Following these wins in the World Cup qualifiers, the Black Stars will focus on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, starting with a home match against Angola in September.
