Former Ghana international Philip Opoku Sampene has questioned the technical knowledge of some local coaches in the Ghana Premier League.
According to him, the reason why the local players are not getting call ups to the Black Stars team is as a result of the coaches inability to transform their style of play.
This he argues will continue to deny the home- based players opportunity of getting invitations to the Black Stars team if the coaches do not improve their ”system and style of coaching”.
“The local players are not getting call ups to the Black Stars team because most the coaches coaching them are not talented and do not add any value to their raw talent” he said
The former Asante Kotoko/Bofoakwa Tano player speaking exclusively in an interview with new.sportsworldghana.com’s Esther Osei highlighted on the need for local coaches to upgrade themselves to make the domestic league more exciting and attractive with their in-depth technical knowledge on the pitch.
“I think it is about time the local coaches learn well and upgrade themselves to teach the boys new things and get the best out if them” he said.
“If we get the right coaches for the local teams, it will help bring the best talents to represent the local league in the Black Stars”
The former striker of Africa Sports of Ivory Coast, explains back in his playing days players in the local league were treated and also groomed well to compete with colleagues who were playing their trade outside the country to compete keenly in the national team.
“I remember back in 1994 when the Black Stars were preparing for the Nations Cup, some foreign players like Mohammed Polo, Aldolf Armah and the likes who were fantastic came but we the local boys were made to play ahead of them because the local guys were equally good and were treated with respect” added the former AA Gent playmaker
The former OKwahu United talisman however emphasized that the coaches need to go for a lot of coaching courses to upgrade themselves and also help to enrich the home based players talents.
