Leeds United legend Tony Yeboah is backing the club to book qualification to the elite of English football next season.
Yeboah, who is a club legend, having enjoyed an incredible two and half year spell at the club, is backing manager Marcelo Alberto Bielsa to steer the club back to the Premier League.
United have been handed a massive boost in their attempts to gain promotion to the top-flight after the EFL confirmed their commitment to finish the current league campaign despite the coronavirus fears.
Bielsa’s side it at the top of the Championship table with just nine games left to play but there fears the rampaging virus could lead to a cancellation of the league.
But that may just not happen as former Ghana star Tony Yeboah backs the club to make the hugely anticipated return to the Premier League.
“The fans and the club deserve to be back in the Premier League,” he said.
“They have the qualities, a fantastic stadium and fantastic management.
“We are all keeping our fingers crossed that Leeds can come back to the Premier League.”
The club hero also hailed the club’s fantastic fans for their massive show of support during his time at Yorkshire.
“I was not here too long – only two-and-a-half years – but I had a great time with the players and the fans,” said the 53-year-old.
“The fans especially, they were fantastic.
“I will never forget my first game against Queens Park Rangers.
“My first touch wasn’t good, but the atmosphere and support was unbelievable. That gave me strength and morale to think and believe this is a place where I can perform.
“I was not here too long – only two-and-a-half years – but I had a great time with the players and the fans,” said the 53-year-old.
Yeboah was at Leeds during the 94-95, 95-96, and 96-97 seasons.
During that time, he was the club’s top goalscorer for two seasons, scoring 29 goals for Leeds in total.
Reflecting on his period at Elland Road, Yeboah said that the Whites’ fans gave him the strength to continue his excellent form.
He enjoyed his time in Yorkshire, and is desperate to see them back in the top flight.
