The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has hinted at the possiblity of becoming sponsors of the Ghana Premier League after meeting with the Ghana Football Association on Tuesday.
The Ghana Premier League has been without a headline sponsor after First Capital Plus Bank pulled out of their 10 million US Dollar five-year sponsorship deal in 2015 lasting just a season after coming on board a year earlier but this positive hint from the public organizer of raffles should excite the GFA who are looking forward to make their flagship soccer competition autonomous.
“Yes the GFA came to us two days ago and we had a very good meeting. They came to us to see how best we as NLA can help the development and betterment of football in the country. The GFA president and his team came to meet us and we have even formed a GFA- NLA working committee already. ” Razak Kwadwo Poku head of Public Relations at NLA told Wontumi Radio on Thursday afternoon as reported by SportsWorldGhana.com.
“The working committee will meet to discuss the right packages that we can use to help football and the Ghana premier league so that people can develop more enthusiasm for the local game. Our support could be anything. It could be watch and win promo or NLA sponsoring the Ghana premier league” Razak explained. .
What to know about the NLA?
The NLA was originally established as the Department of National Lotteries in 1958 with a Mandate to organize raffles for the public to have fun and win prizes. In 1960, the Lotto and Betting Act 94 was passed into law to start lottery in Ghana with the aim of raising revenue to support the development of the country.
Over the past fifty years, the NLA has evolved from its earlier incarnation as a Civil Service Institution known as the Department of National Lotteries (DNL); it has been transformed into an autonomous Public Service Institution, with a legal monopoly on the organization of lotteries in Ghana, and one which is of the most important contributors to both Government revenues and employment generation. Hence, in 2006, the passing of an Act of parliament, the National Lotto Act 722 gave birth to National Lottery Authority.
One of the things that continuously inspires and brings joy to the NLA is the sensitivity of their organization to issues of social importance and public welfare. Various projects are commissioned to launch various social interventions in the areas of Health, Education and the preservation of our Cultural Heritage.
