FIFA, the world football governing body, has included the drum used by the Black Stars for their vibrant ‘jama’ sessions during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar to their esteemed museum collection.
Ghana’s iconic pre-match ritual involved players joyfully dancing and singing alongside the rhythmic beats of the drum, showcasing their vibrant culture on the global stage.
Despite Ghana’s early exit from the tournament, the drum used for the ‘jama’ has found its place in the FIFA museum collection, commemorating the spirited display of the Black Stars.
A post on the FIFA museum’s social media page confirmed the addition, celebrating Ghana’s unique arrival to the stadiums in Qatar.
Meanwhile, the jersey worn by Asamoah Gyan during the 2010 FIFA World Cup quarter-final against Uruguay was enshrined in the FIFA museum two years prior. Gyan, a key figure for Ghana, nearly propelled the Black Stars to Africa’s first semi-final appearance at the prestigious event. With three goals, including a memorable winner against the USA in the round of 16, Gyan etched his name in World Cup history.
Having retired from active football last year, Gyan remains Africa’s highest scorer at the World Cup, with six goals across three tournaments.
