Legendary FIFA World Cup coach Bora Milutinovic has expressed backing for George Afriyie to become the next Ghana FA President and revealed his readiness to help set up a world-class technical directorate in the West African nation.
The 75-year-old Serb has a long-standing relationship with the ex-Ghana FA vice President and is committed to bringing his experience on board to set up one of the world’s best technical directorate for Ghana as Afriyie seeks to restore, redeem and revive Ghana football.
One of the major problems bedeviling Ghana football over the years remains the obvious lack of a technical directorate which should determine the technical direction of football in the country which has won the African Cup of Nations four times.
Milutinovic, who has coached at five editions of the FIFA World Cup but tied for that record alongside Brazilian manager Carlos Alberto Parreira, is ready to invest his experience and expertise in setting up a modern directorate for Ghana to help shape the football system in the country.
He is the only coach to have secured five consecutive World Cup appearances with different teams namely: Mexico (1986), Costa Rica (1990), the United States (1994), Nigeria (1998), and China (2002).
Since the inception of football the former Udinese manager and the only coach to have qualified China to the FIFA World Cup and regarded as cult figure among the population in the Asian super powerful nation. During that campaign to qualify China to the mundial in 2002, he won 12 out of 14 matches played to cement his place in the hearts of the Chinese people.
The commitment and readiness of Milutinovic to work with George Afriyie is yet another big signal of the massive potentials lying in wait of Ghana football when he becomes President of the association.
He has already used his connections in the business circles to secure a sponsorship package from McDan Group Companies for the national Cults Premier League while football in the country is also set to receive massive infrastructural facelift.
