Ghana’s next competitive game will be in March against South Africa in Johannesburg as the team continues its quest for another AFCON qualification.
The Black Stars will qualify for Africa’s biggest football competition slated for January next year in Cameroon should they pick a point against South Africa or beat Sao Tome in March at the Cape Coast stadium in their last game.
Ahead of the two games, SPORTSworldGhana.com lists five-home-based players in superb form so far in the ongoing 2020/21 Ghana Premier League who can make the cut for the Black Stars squad.
- Razak Abalora- Asante Kotoko

Abalora, is already a member of the Black Stars team under coach Akonnor and has been impressive in the local scene since his free transfer to Asante Kotoko. He has showcased that he has undeniably what it takes to maintain his slot in the team for the upcoming qualifiers.
Abalora has managed six clean sheets in nine matches. The former Azam FC shot-stopper hasn’t conceded in his last three consecutive games for Asante Kotoko.
2. Diawisie Taylor- Karela United

Diawisie Taylor undoubtedly deserves a chance in the Black Stars team ahead of Kotoko’s Kwame Opoku after an explosive start to the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League. The former Bibiani Gold Stars goal-poacher currently leads the Ghana Premier League top scorer’s chart with nine goals after match day 13.
Poku has bagged seven goals and provided one assist. He has also picked one MVP award.
Taylor is not just about goals as he has put up superb performances which has won him, one man of the match award, this season. He also boasts of two assists.
3. Abdul Ishmail Ganiyu- Asante Kotoko

Ganiu has over the years proven to be solid at the heart of Kotoko’s defence with his calm composure on the pitch. He has been the rock in Johnson Smith team and has thus justified that he is absolutely worth wearing the Black Stars jersey. The former Karela United centre-back would be an asset for the Black Stars team as the country has few central defenders playing actively abroad.
Ganiyu has so far this season won one MVP award after and has featured in 12 out of the 13 games played so far.
The stalwart defender without any doubt has what it takes to easily partner Joseph Aidoo, Kasim Nuhu or John Boye in the team’s central defense.
4. Ibrahim Salifu- Eleven Wonders

The Techiman Eleven Wonders poster boy has proven beyond all reasonable doubt that he is fit to wear the national colours following his stupendous form in the ongoing campaign. The hardworking attacking midfield sensation has so far after won five man of the match awards and scored one goal with four assists to his name this season.
Salifu’s incredible performance puts him ahead of Medeama SC’s Justice Blay who has won two man of the match award and scored two goals.
5. Gladson Awako- Great Olympics

The man of the moment Gladson Awako has shockingly silenced his critics with a scintillating display in the league as he has single-handedly transformed Accra Great Olympics team to a winsome side. The free kick expert was never considered as someone who could take the league by storm when he decided to relaunch his career back home.
Despite the heavy doubt by the connoisseurs of the game, the 2009 U-20 World Cup winner has gone ahead to become the most talked about player in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League.
The former TP Mazembe player has scored four goals and registered four assists in 12 out of 13 games for Olympics so far this campaign. He has also clinched four MVP awards.
Awako’s vast experience coupled with his thunderous current form gives him an edge over Wafa’s Augustine Boakye and other players who play similar roles with him in the league.
Boakye, 20, has won three man of the match awards and scored four goals. He has also provided nine incredible assists.
