Father of Hearts of Oak-bound goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi, Frank Ofori, has issued an unqualified apology to Hearts of Oak fans for his 2013 comments against the club.
The former Ghana U-20 goalie’s father in 2013 said he will prevent his son from joining Hearts of Oak because players from Bono Ahafo Region don’t deliver when they sign for the Accra-based giants.
“I will not allow my son to play for Hearts of Oak because Bono players get bad luck when they play for Hearts,” Dabanka, who is also known as Lawal said. I am going to a funeral this weekend and I will meet the chairman of Kotoko. He has not asked me if he wants my son but if he approaches me I will approve it,” he said.
“There are countless number of Bono players who have gone to Kotoko and prospered like Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah, George Arthur and many many others. Bono players who went to Hearts could not achieve anything so I will not allow my son to go there. The worst for him is to stay at Amidaus – not Hearts of Oak,” he added.
Ofori-Antwi eventually joined Hearts of Oak’s big rivals Asante Kotoko as the Phobians missed out on signing the goalkeeper despite numerous efforts from the hierarchy of the Accra-based giants.
After failing to shine at Kotoko the talented shoh-stopper left the Baba Yara Stadium after 3 seasons to Medeama in 2017 where he has spent the past 4 seasons and is set to complete a move to Ghana Premier League champions Hearts of Oak.
Ahead of the almost done-deal transfer the player’s father has apologised for his comments and sensationally claimed that he spoke under the influence of alcohol.
“I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to the Hearts of Oak fraternity for saying unpalatable words about them some years ago concerning my son(Eric Ofori Antwi) ‘s move to Accra Hearts of Oak. It wouldn’t happen again,” he told Sunyani-based Space FM.
“I totally withdraw that uncomplimentary remarks about Hearts of Oak. I sworn that none of my children would play for Hearts Of Oak because I don’t like the team. I want to state it clear that, I said all those things under the influence of “akpeteshie”(alcohol). I used to be into alcoholism those days, but now I’m no more into alcohol. I felt regretted after saying those things on radio,” he added.
Eric Ofori Antwi is se to reunite with his former Medeama gaffer Samuel Boadu at Hearts of Oak.
