Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council member, Frederick Acheampong, vehemently denies allegations made by former U20 World Cup winner Ransford Osei, who claimed Acheampong took a $20,000 bribe for a spot in the World Cup team.
According to Ransford Osei, Acheampong advised him to use the money to garner favour with influential figures in football leadership to ensure his inclusion in the World Cup squad. Despite complying and transferring the funds, the former Kotoko striker claims that the promised arrangements were never fulfilled.
Recounting the events, Osei expressed deep disappointment, stating, “He did something that really hurt me. It hit my soul; that is why I am saying this. He ended my career,” in an interview with Doc Royal Sports.
Osei asserted that Acheampong’s failure to use the funds as promised marked the end of his promising football career.
However, Frederick Acheampong in a swift response in a press release has strongly refuted the accusations and threatens legal action should Osei fail to provide evidence, asserting his commitment to the integrity of football administration.
Despite being a key player in Ghana’s U-17 and U-20 teams and featuring prominently in the 2009 U-20 World Cup-winning squad, Osei missed out on the 2010 World Cup squad.
