Former Asokwa Deportivo SC striker, Joel Fameyeh is in line to play his first ever senior game for Ghana’s Black Stars when they take on the Atlas Lions of Morocco today.
Fameyeh, who started his playing career with the Division One League side Asokwa Deportivo has worked his way through the dark and storms to reach the very top of international football.
The striker was identified by owner of the Asokwa-based club, Mr. Abdulai Amidu when he was unknown and in a raw material form very early and took him to Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) where he won the Ashanti Region Inter-colleges games under coach Bashir Hayford.
After his exploit in the competition, the hard working attacker was introduced into the senior team of Deportivo and did not spend time to hit the ground running with a consistent eye-catching performances.
The youngster after his promotion wowed the football loving fans in the country with a superlative performance in the Division One League Zone Two in 2015/2016 season and scored 35 goals in the league, a record which still holds as the player with most goals in a single season in the competition.
Joel, 19, at the time was invited to play for Ghana and scored two goals for the Ghanaian side in their first leg clash of the 2016 CHAN qualifiers in Kumasi but the Ivorians registered a lone goal win over the Black Stars to qualify on the away goal rule at the expense of Ghana.
He later moved to Belarus to play for Belshina on loan but ended up at Belarusian giants Dynamo Brest in the second transfer window in Belarus following a blistering start to life in the Belarus Premier League.
The Ghanaian forward went on to win five trophies at the club when he lifted the Belarusian Premier League title with Dynamo Brest in the 2018-19 season and also won the Belarusian Cup twice in 2017 and 2018 respectively as well as the Belarus Super Cup on two occasions.
In the summer of 2019, Fameyeh joined Russian side FC Orenburg and scored eight goals at the end of the season but his team suffered relegation after failing to raise a team for games in the league due to Covid-19 cases at their camp at the time.
This season, the former Deportivo hitman scored 12 goals and gave five assists in the Russian National Football League as he helped his team to secure promotion back into the top-flight league in Russia.
The 24-year-old striker Fameyeh, have been included in the Ghana squad for this month’s international friendly games against Morocco today and Ivory Coast on Saturday, 12th of June after excelling in the just ended season.
Morocco will host Ghana today in Rabat in a highly-anticipated game at 7pm today and the young striker could be making his debut for the senior national team after working his way up the ladder.
