Kurt Okraku, the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has expressed his hope for a better performance from the Black Stars at the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ghana, pursuing their fifth continental title, faced an early exit at the group stage in the last AFCON edition hosted in Cameroon, securing just one point. The Black Stars managed a draw against Gabon but suffered defeats to Morocco and Comoros.
With less than a month left until the 34th edition of AFCON in Ivory Coast, Okraku is optimistic about an improved performance from the team.
“Indeed, at the last outing, it did not go well. Everybody in Ghana saw what happened but we are looking forward to a much better outing at the AFCON in Ivory Coast”
“Fortunately for us, it is happening at our next door and I will call on all Ghanaians to remain supportive of the Black Stars because that is our national team we have.
He urged Ghanaians to support the Black Stars, emphasizing the significance of backing the national team even if the performances aren’t dazzling.
“Even if the boys are not playing scintillating football, we have to throw weight behind them because that is our national team,” he added.
Ghana, last crowned AFCON champions in 1982 in Libya, has been drawn into Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique. The tournament is scheduled to run from Saturday, January 13, to February 11, 2024.
