Ghana completed their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualification tournament with a 3-1 win over minnows Sao Tome and Principe during Day 6 of the qualifying series.
Here are five major talking points we picked from the game.
1.Abalora generates doubt
The Asante Kotoko goalkeeper was partly blamable for the Percy Tau goal in the South Africa 1 Ghana 1 game just last Friday and on Sunday against Sao Tome and Principe he committed another unpardonable blunder by giving away the ball to a wrong player resulting in the opponent’s goal. This raises doubt about whether Abalora can indeed stage any credible challenge against first choice Richard Ofori who was not part of these games.
2.Akonnor trusts Baba Rahman again
The starting line up of Ghana for this dead rubber sent one message and that is Akonnor is not ready to give Ibrahim Imoro any serious opportunity. The Kotoko left back was handed late invitation to join the team due to Gideon Mensah’s injury and even though it was Baba Rahman that scored Ghana’s goal, many believed he should not have started this game.
3.Jordan needs penalties to score against Sao Tome and Principe
The Crystal Palace attacker was brought down in the box and elected himself to successfully convert the penalty kick. In the reverse game Jordan scored another penalty to make it a penalty brace against the minnows.
4.Nicholas Opoku shines
The Amiens center back was relatively quiet in the South African game but on Sunday he delivered a much improved performance and scored the opener for the Black Stars in the 12th minute with a header , assisted by Kudus Mohammed from a corner kick.
5.Kudus a real playmaker in the making
The Ajax midfielder scored against South Africa last Friday and against Sao Tome and Principe he provided two assists as Ghana won 3-1.
