Champions Medeama faced a tough challenge against Nations FC but managed to secure a 1-1 draw in their return to Ghanaian domestic football at Abrankese on Sunday.
The match between the two teams provided plenty of excitement as they shared the points in the Ghanaian top-flight league.
Medeama took the lead thanks to a brilliant free-kick converted by left-back Fatawu Sulemana in the 32nd minute. However, Nations FC quickly responded as Asamoah Boateng Afriyie capitalized on a defensive mistake to score just before halftime, leveling the score.
Throughout the game, Medeama looked dangerous on the counterattack, with Baba Musah missing a great chance from Derrick Fordjour’s cross.
Nations FC also had their opportunities but struggled to convert them into goals, despite putting pressure on goalkeeper Felix Kyei in the second half.
Despite the draw, Medeama can take pride in their strong performance away from home. They currently sit in 10th place on the table with 26 points but have two games in hand.
Medeama’s coach, Nebjosa Kapor, will be pleased with his team’s display as they prepare to face Bechem United in their next home fixture.
On the other hand, Nations FC, who caused an upset by defeating league leaders Samartex FC last week, may feel disappointed with the draw at home.
Coach Kasim Mingle will need to address his team’s shortcomings if they aim to compete for the Premier League title. Nations FC currently occupies the fourth position on the table with 31 points and will travel to the capital to face Legon Cities in their next match.
