Ghana’s U16 male national team is set to begin preparations for the 7th edition of the Guadeloupe U-16 Invitational Tournament, with players expected to report to camp on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The call-up comes on the back of an intensive talent scouting and screening programme held in April at the Glow Lamp Soccer Academy. The exercise was aimed at identifying top young prospects to form a solid squad for the upcoming global youth competition.
Former Black Stars midfielder Nii Odartey Lamptey will lead the technical team as Head Coach. Supporting him on the bench are John Oppong Welbeck and Awudu Issaka, both of whom bring considerable experience to the coaching setup. Together, they will steer the team’s tactical and physical preparations ahead of the tournament.
Scheduled to kick off on May 25, 2025, the Guadeloupe U-16 Invitational is regarded as one of the premier youth tournaments worldwide. The event will feature top-level competition from countries including France, Brazil, Mexico, Ivory Coast, and Togo—offering Ghana’s young players a rare platform to test their skills on the global stage.
This international tournament is a central part of the Ghana Football Association’s long-term strategy to develop young talent and build a strong pipeline for future national teams. By exposing players to international football early in their careers, the GFA hopes to shape a new generation of technically gifted and mentally prepared professionals.
