Leicester City fans have reason to celebrate as Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has officially signed a permanent five-year contract with the club.
The 20-year-old impressed last season while on loan from Sporting Lisbon, playing a crucial role in City’s Championship triumph. His dribbling skills, pace, attacking flair, and defensive work ethic quickly made him a fan favorite.
The £14 million transfer, anticipated as Leicester’s first summer signing, was confirmed by Sporting’s manager in May. Issahaku had recently hinted at the move on social media.
However, Fatawu becomes the fourth summer addition for manager Steve Cooper, following the arrivals of Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Michael Golding, and Caleb Okoli. The squad’s strength is further enhanced by Wilfred Ndidi’s recent contract renewal as the new Premier League season approaches in five weeks.
Fatawu adds significant firepower to Leicester’s attack, having contributed seven goals and 13 assists last season. He peaked towards the end of the season, delivering a standout performance with a hat-trick in the 5-0 victory over Southampton, a pivotal moment in City’s title run.
Credit for identifying Fatawu goes to recruitment chief Martyn Glover, who saw the potential in the young winger despite him having only one senior start in Europe before joining Leicester on loan.
Issahaku, a Ghanaian international with 19 caps, recently scored his second goal in a 2026 World Cup qualifying match against the Central African Republic.
