Ghanaian winger Thomas Agyepong says that he feels good after getting 60 minutes of SPFL Reserve League football under his belt on Monday afternoon.
The Ghanaian international featured heavily in his outing at Cappielow, registering an assist and a goal in the 3-1 victory for the Hibernian Development Squad against Greenock Morton.
It was an important milestone for the winger as he stepped up his bid for a Hibernian debut and his first professional appearance since featuring for NAC Breda away to FC Twente on Sunday 6 May earlier this year.
He said: “I feel really good. It’s been a long time since I have played as I have been coming back from injury. Last season I didn’t play a lot.
“During pre-season, I wasn’t able to play matches to get my fitness up. To get an hour was really good.
“I felt a bit of fatigue, but that’s normal if you haven’t played in a long time, but it was a good feeling to play.”
The Manchester City loanee said that it was at the forefront of his thoughts to just enjoy being out on the park at Cappielow – and that was certainly the case as he assisted the opening goal after just 35 seconds.
His run through the heart of the Morton defence may have been thwarted initially, but Thomas battled to win the ball back and his cross was swept home by Lewis Allan. The winger admits that it gave his confidence a boost to be so effective early on in the game.
Agyepong added: “Going into the game it was in my mind to just enjoy and to contribute to the team. To do that so early was good and it gave me confidence going into the game and it kept me going.
“To do that in the first minute it can set you up for the whole game and your confidence will come up as a result and everything takes care of itself.”
The hour on the pitch has given Thomas valuable game time as he steps up his bid to run onto the pitch wearing a Hibernian jersey for the first time. This could happen on Saturday at the Tony Macaroni Arena as Hibs take on Livingston.
The 21-year-old is now just looking forward to the match in West Lothian and says he is prepared to give his all should he be selected to play by Head Coach Neil Lennon.
“I am always looking forward to getting onto the pitch. Any time I am called to play I will give my best” the winger said.
He continued: “Playing on Monday was good as it let me get some game time in my legs and some minutes under my belt, which should set me up for my debut whenever that is.
“I’m just looking forward to the weekend. I don’t know the team yet or how the game is going to go, but if I am called on to come and play then I will give my best to the team.”
