Ben Nunoo Mensah, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), has called for an expansion of fan ownership within the leadership of Hearts of Oak Football Club.
In an interview with Accra-based Radio Gold, Nunoo Mensah emphasized the importance of involving supporters in the club’s ownership structure. He highlighted the decline in fan representation among top shareholders over the years, suggesting it’s time to reignite fan participation.
He urged Hearts of Oak to make use of available shares and consider floating more to allow supporters to invest in their beloved club, citing it as a pivotal moment to engage fans and enhance their ownership.
“The supporters play a crucial role in our present endeavors. There are shares still available for subscription or yet to be floated. Why not seize this moment, armed with the knowledge and awareness supporters now have about the club, and invite them to participate by floating these shares again?” he proposed
Nunoo Mensah proposed a systematic approach, advocating for a clear plan for issuing shares and educational campaigns to enlighten supporters on the benefits of ownership.
“Let’s devise a roadmap for the issuance of shares and then embark on educating the supporters. With the right approach, I believe they will enthusiastically embrace the opportunity to invest in Accra Hearts of Oak,” he stated optimistically.
He expressed optimism in the fans’ dedication to the club and envisioned active participation from supporters in owning shares, underscoring the mutually beneficial relationship between clubs and their communities.
“I am confident that, given what they’ve witnessed, the supporters will eagerly come forward to own Accra Hearts of Oak. Every club draws its strength from the community it serves,” he emphasized.
With Hearts of Oak gearing up for a crucial Matchday 25 clash against Medeama SC at Akoon Park, Nunoo Mensah’s call for expanded fan ownership adds a layer of community engagement to the club’s ongoing efforts.
