1. It can’t always be referees for the poor performance of teams
Why do we always blame referees for poor performances of teams? What was exactly the referees crime for some Asante Kotoko fans to try to let them not go and rest?
The time is now for GFA to stand up and act to protect the referees from the unnecessary bullying. Fans have developed the knack for blaming referees for their teams horrible performances. Referees cannot be trusted wholly as we have had instances that they have decided to favour one team over the other but we have to pardon them sometimes for genuine mistakes made because they are human beings. On Sunday night at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, some Kotoko fan’s behaviour was very inappropriate as they decided to not let the referee enter the dressing room during the half time. This is very shameful and must be condemned by the GFA. Our referees are not protected in any way in the country. The bullying on them is too much.
2. Bofoakwa Tano won back-to-back at home since Weeks 2 and 3
The Sunyani club has struggled indeed. Bofoakwa defeated Karela 2-1 in a must-win game to ease the relegation pressure for now. It’s the first time since Week 3 that Bofoakwa, a team known for being so great at home, has won back-to-back home games. Life in the topflight got on to a wonderful start but everything broke down along the way in the first round and Boafoakwa has struggled. The two consecutive wins at the Sunyani Coronation Park will serve as a huge motivation for Tano Bofoakwa in their quest to remain in the league. We are almost entering the business end of the season and good form at home will play a key role in Bofoakwa’s fight for survival.
3. Samartex 1996 are the kings of home games
Nsenkyire Sports Arena is the name of the venue of the Timber Giants. This is where no man dares to dream. The place is as dangerous as D.O Fagunwa’s “Forest of a Thousand Daemons” where Akara-ogun struggled with all his powers. Teams have struggled to enjoy life except Nations FC who won 1-0 there and became the only team to steal a point. Out of the available 33 points at home, Samartex has won a whopping 30. This is what the road to success normally looks like. On Saturday afternoon, Nurudeen Amadu handed Aboubakar Ouattara his first defeat as head coach of Hearts of Oak. Evans Osei Wusu’s brace ensured the 10th win at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena in Samraboi.
4. RTU put aside their troubles and record a superb win over Accra Lions
RTU smiled on Monday afternoon after beating the in-form Accra Lions. What role will the win play in RTU’s battle to beat relegation? RTU’s problem has been money as they struggle to get even a pesewa to sort things out. Beaten Accra Lions was awesome because it will boost their confidence ahead of the rest of the season. The battle is a difficult one for RTU but with Mohammed Mankuyeli in hot form, anything can happen.
5. Can Nations FC challenge for the title?
Nations FC has won their last 3 away games against Berekum Chelsea, Samartex and Asante Kotoko. It is a title contender performance as winning away from home is the most difficult job in the GPL. Dr Kwame Kyei’s investment is paying off and it won’t be surprised if they defy all odds and win the GPL. It is an exciting time at Abrankese as Nations FC are 2nd in the league table with just two points behind the table toppers. Nations FC hosts Great Olympics, travels to RTU and hosts Bofoakwa in their next three games. These three games can define Nations FC’s title contest.
