Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has praised his Leicester City teammates after their hard-fought victory over Charlton Athletic in the English Championship on Saturday.
The 20-year-old produced a moment of brilliance in the second half, curling in a sensational strike that sealed all three points for the Foxes at The Valley. The goal marked Issahaku’s first of the campaign and handed Leicester their second win in three matches, bouncing back strongly from their midweek defeat to Preston North End.
“Not the game we expected but we stood tall to get the three points that was needed. Great effort from the lads together with the fans. Thanks to the foxes for their amazing support — we stay together,” Issahaku posted on Instagram after the game.
Leicester were made to work for the win, defending their narrow lead for long spells while still carving out chances on the counter. Manager Marti Cifuentes was full of praise for the Ghanaian youngster, highlighting both his confidence and tactical execution.
“It’s a fantastic goal,” Cifuentes said. “First of all, I’m happy to see Abdul laughing, smiling, and enjoying his football again. That’s good news for him and for the team. Secondly, we spoke at half-time about what we were missing. We were playing in front of them, but against aggressive, physical teams like this, you need to attack in behind and accelerate the game. Abdul did exactly that.”
Issahaku, who joined Leicester permanently this summer after an impressive loan spell, will be hoping this goal sparks a strong run of form as the Foxes push for promotion back to the Premier League.
