Former Hearts of Oak midfielder, Stephen Appiah, has expressed the view that the era of Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko dominating the Ghana Premier League is over.
Appiah, a former Black Stars captain, believes that the league has become more competitive, with other teams stepping up their performance and challenging the traditionally dominant clubs.
Reflecting on the changing landscape of Ghanaian football, Appiah stated, “Gone are the days when you see only three teams, Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak, that they have all the best players, so you see them winning and winning.”
He emphasized the increasing competitiveness in the league, acknowledging the rise of teams like Medeama and other clubs that are performing exceptionally well.
“But these days we have teams like Medeama, you have other clubs doing so well. So it is very very competitive.”
Medeama secured their first Ghana Premier League title last season and have showcased a strong performance in the CAF Champions League.
Additionally, Dreams FC has made a notable impact in the CAF Confederation Cup, winning two games and demonstrating a competitive edge in continental competitions.
