Hearts of Oak are set to appoint Dutch trainer, Martin Koopman to fill the vacant head coach position.
The Accra-based team has faced challenges in recent weeks in their quest for a permanent coach after the departure of Serbian trainer Slavko Matic last season.
Despite approaching Nigerian coach Paul Aigbogun and Tunisia coach Khalil Abid, neither deal came to fruition for the 2000 CAF Champions League winners.
As per a report from Africa-foot.com, Hearts of Oak has now settled on Dutch coach Martin Koopman to take over the helm. Koopman, a former Netherlands defender who played for Go Ahead Eagles, FC Twente, and Cambuur, is expected to arrive in Ghana on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, to finalize his appointment ahead of the upcoming 2023/24 season starting next month.
Rene Hiddink, the Technical Director of the club, reportedly recommended Koopman for the role. Koopman’s extensive managerial career includes stints as a youth team and assistant coach at Go Ahead Eagles and Cambuur, as well as positions at FC Groningen, FC Den Bosch, Veendam, AS Vita Club, Saudi Arabia, Shenyang Ginde, Roda JC, RKC Waalwijk, Aruba, and most recently the Maldives, all in assistant coaching roles.
