Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara has slammed the “abnormal” nature of player contracts in the Ghana Premier League, which often expire just before the start of a new season.
Ouattara expressed frustration over the non-professional practices that lead to players leaving clubs at critical times.
“I don’t understand why a player’s contract would end in September or December,” Ouattara said during a media briefing on Thursday. “It’s not normal for a contract to end just a week before the league starts. It’s not professional.”
Ouattara’s comments come amid recent issues where players have departed Ghanaian clubs due to the timing of their contract expirations, causing difficulties for teams during crucial periods of the season. The Hearts of Oak coach is focused on strengthening his squad after a challenging 2023/24 season, where they narrowly avoided relegation.
Ouattara is committed to bringing professionalism and stability to the club and is determined to ensure that his team does not repeat last season’s performance.
