Ghana Premier League giants Accra Hearts of Oak have officially opened discussions with Stephen Diyou, the highly-rated former Nsotreman FC winger, in a bid to bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
Sources close to the club have confirmed that preliminary talks are underway between Diyou’s representatives and the Hearts of Oak management. The 23-year-old winger, who enjoyed a breakout season with Nsotreman before leaving the club earlier this year, is said to be high on the wishlist of newly appointed head coach Aboubakar Ouattara.
Ouattara, who took charge of the Phobians following a disappointing season, is seeking to reshape the squad with youthful energy and attacking flair — attributes that Diyou offers in abundance. Known for his explosive pace, dribbling ability, and direct style of play, Diyou made a name for himself in the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League campaign, contributing five goals and several assists despite Nsotreman’s mid-table finish.
The player is currently a free agent, which makes negotiations more flexible in terms of transfer fees. However, Hearts are expected to face competition from at least two other local clubs, as well as interest from teams in North Africa, according to transfer insiders.
Club insiders suggest that Ouattara sees Diyou as a key piece in his tactical plans, potentially fitting into a wide role in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 setup. The winger is also said to be keen on a move to the capital and sees Hearts of Oak as a significant step forward in his career.
No deal has been finalized yet, but both parties are believed to be optimistic about reaching an agreement before the window officially opens in June.
