Abukari Damba, the coach of Karela United, admitted his team’s shortcomings in their recent Ghana Premier League clash against Hearts of Oak, where Hearts staged a remarkable comeback to secure a 3-1 victory at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Karela United took an early lead as Dafie Mumin Mohammed found the net just four minutes into the game. However, Hearts of Oak responded strongly with a double from Hamza Issa and a stunning long-range strike from Salim Adams to complete the turnaround.
In his post-match comments, Damba praised the Phobians, acknowledging their impressive performance: “I should be disappointed but…I must say Hearts of Oak were a delight to watch. They played with so much momentum and took their chances and football are all about taking your chances and Hearts of Oak took their chances.”
Despite the loss, Karela United remains in the relegation zone, having accumulated 30 points from 26 matches. Reflecting on the game, Damba noted that his team failed to capitalize on opportunities: “We did not create enough chances. In as much as we scored the first goal, we went back to sleep. So we did not create enough chances, talk less of converting them.”
Karela United’s next league fixture is against Accra Lions, currently in 8th place, at home on Sunday, where they will aim to bounce back from their defeat against Hearts of Oak.
