French-based midfielder Elisha Owusu has revealed his excitement upon receiving his first call-up to the Black Stars, stating that playing for Ghana had always been a lifelong dream.
The 26-year-old, born in Montreuil, France to Ghanaian parents, began his career at French giants Olympique Lyon, where he spent nine years before joining Belgian side KAA Gent. Owusu was first called up to Ghana’s senior national team in 2022 by then-coach Otto Addo and made his debut in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier playoff against Nigeria in Abuja.
In an interview with journalist Owuraku Ampofo, Owusu shared that despite not being born in Ghana, he always aspired to represent the country on the international stage. He also spoke about his admiration for former Black Stars players Kevin-Prince Boateng and Andre Ayew, describing the honor of playing alongside Ayew as a dream come true.
“For me, it’s a great thing to play for my country. I am very happy to go on international duty. When I was a kid, I always dreamt of playing for Ghana. It’s truly a blessing,” Owusu said.
He added, “Growing up, I watched Kevin-Prince Boateng a lot—I loved him as a kid. Andre Ayew as well because when you’re from France, he’s the ‘big, big’ man. Playing with him in the national team was a huge honor for me.”
Owusu currently plays for AJ Auxerre, where he played a pivotal role in securing the club’s promotion back to Ligue 1.
He has made four league appearances this season and recently featured in Ghana’s 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
