Ghana midfielder Kojo Poku has described his move to Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala as ’’the transition to Anji “is a big challenge for me” despite being a ‘dream come true’ journey.
The former Miami forward, last week joined the Eagles with his contract expiring on May 31, 2020.
The 25-year-old forward arrived in Russia on the early hours of Sunday and spoke to the club’s website exclusively.
Quizzed how he endured the flight to complete his move to the Russian side said ‘’Thank you so much! You know, it was a really long journey. I spent about eleven hours on the plane between Miami and Istanbul and then made another flight from Istanbul to Antalya. But here I am and I’m happy! I am very glad to see all of you and feel great!” he told fc-anji.ru.
Born and raised in Kumasi- Ghana, Poku disclosed moving to Europe has always been his dream.
”Moving to Europe is a new challenge for me, but it is also the embodiment of my long-standing dream, my goal. I always wanted to play in Europe, get to a new level and the transfer to “Anji” became for me such a step the best opportunity to achieve something more’’.Poku added ”
”I heard about “Anji” and heard a long time, about five or six years ago, when Samuel Eto’o was playing here. I also knew that my compatriot and soccer player of the Ghana team played here (Jonathan Mensa has been performing at the MLB club Columbus Crew since 2017 – note of the press service), which I know. So it’s certainly an honor for me to be in this club”.
He added though the US league ended months ago, he has been training very hard to maintain his physical condition.
”The season in the US ended a long time ago, but I trained and supported the form myself. I am sure that I will be very interested here. I already know how high the competition is in the Russian championship and I understand that such club as “Anji” always wants to move up. Yes, it’s possible that the team is going through a bad time now, but that’s partly why I’m here to help her fix the situation and get up in the table to where we should be’’.
Kojo Poku, during his stay in US had stints with Atlanta, New York City and Miami FC.
