Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has revealed that he never had the opportunity to attend university due to his early start in professional football.
The 34-year-old former Ghana international made this revelation during a guest lecture at the University of Ghana, where he shared his experiences on mental strength, leadership, and managing fame with students.
Speaking after the event, Ayew explained that he started playing football at a very early age, which meant he didn’t have the chance to further his education. “Because of football, I didn’t have the opportunity to go to university because I started so early,” he said. “But it makes you remember a lot of things, you know. Nothing replaces your school days.”
Ayew also spoke about his experience attending a French school in East Legon before moving to France to pursue his football career. He reminisced about his time in class, recalling both fond and frustrating moments. “I was in a French school here in East Legon for so long before I went to France. And that was, you know, a great moment. You remember what happened in class, being a bit stubborn sometimes,” he said with a chuckle.
Despite not having a university degree, Ayew emphasized the importance of sharing his experiences and lessons learned with younger generations.
“I don’t want to always say everything in a short time, but bit by bit, if we have time to go into these things, you know, we are more than open to open up a lot of experiences that we’ve had to be able to help the ones coming,” he added.
