During a Meet the Press event in Kumasi, Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku refuted rumors suggesting personal animosity towards former Black Stars coach Chris Hughton, who was relieved of his duties following Ghana’s underwhelming performance at AFCON 2023.
Okraku clarified his stance, asserting his commitment to the success of the Ghanaian national team over personal relationships. “I don’t hate anyone! I want to be successful. I demand performance from coaches, I want to see a team perform well and win games. This is what I demand from every coach that works for us!” Okraku declared resolutely.
Highlighting the importance of effective strategies to enhance the team’s performance, Okraku advocated for a comprehensive approach involving engagement, idea-sharing, feedback, and implementation. “I want to see our Black Stars and all our national teams play good football and win games, including all local clubs,” Okraku emphasized passionately.
He stressed that achieving this goal requires a proactive process, encompassing engagement, idea-sharing, feedback, and implementation. “How can this be achieved? It starts with the process we are undertaking today – engaging and sharing ideas, getting feedback, and ensuring that we are ready to implement the necessary strategies to bring back the love for football.”
Okraku’s remarks come in response to Ghana’s disappointing performance at AFCON 2023, where the Black Stars failed to progress beyond the group stage, losing to Cape Verde and drawing with both Egypt and Mozambique.
