The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has commended the national Amputee Football team, the Black Challenge, following their success at the 2024 Amputee Africa Cup of Nations (AAFCON).
The Black Challenge defended the title won two years ago when they beat Morocco in the final to lift the trophy for the second consecutive time.
The team and its management paid a courtesy call to the Minister earlier on Friday, June 14, to present the trophy to him having arrived in the country weeks before from Egypt.
In his address, Ussif commended the team for their effort and gave them plaudits for representing the country well on the continent.
“On behalf of His Excellency the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, I want to congratulate you again for again for this massive win and for lifting our flag very high in Cairo, Egypt,” he said.
“This is the second time; in 2021, you came here when you won and even though we didn’t know much about it, when we got the information we made arrangements and you were airlifted to Ghana and when you came you paid a courtesy call on me and I also informed His Excellency the President of the Republic.
“The President directed that we should support you for lifting our flag high.”
By winning the 2024 AAFCON, the Black Challenge has also qualified to play in the 2026 Amputee World Cup to be held in Panama.
