Black Stars skipper, Andre Ayew is dreaming of winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy for Ghana under coach new head coach Charles Kwablah Akonnor.
Ghana, four-time African Champions haven’t won major silverware since 1982 despite coming close in 1992, 2010 and 2015.
However, the Swansea City star is hoping to win the AFCON trophy to end the country’s trophy drought.
“My personal dream is to make sure that the trophy comes home. But we have one year and a half to go, so we are going to take our time,” he said.
“We have to play the qualifications, we have time to groom, it’s a new Black Stars though I don’t really like the name new Black Stars.
“Black Stars is Black Stars, if you come in and wear the jersey, you have to prove your worth and like I said, there are a lot of players who are there, who are tested and proven players in their League,” Ayew noted.
Ghana suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Mali last Friday and are hoping to redeem their image by winning against Qatar on Monday as the team prepares for next month’s African Cup Nations qualifier double-header against Sudan.
