Ghana’s living legend, Karim Abdul Razak widely known as Golden Boy says becoming one of the country’s finest ever unearth players didn’t come by way of fluke but due to his neck-breaking talent.
According to him, he was born a footballer, having had any coach to teach him the basics of the game in his playing days yet excelled extensively.
The then ‘exciting to watch’ midfield dynamo who due to his fascinating performances on the field won him the name ‘Golden Boy’ was one of the influential players who helped the Black Stars of Ghana to win the 1978 African Cup of Nations and was subsequently awarded African Footballer of the Year that same year.
Abdul Razak, 61, aside his playing days with Ghana Premier league giants Asante Kotoko also featured for relegated Kumasi based premier league side Connerstones, Al- Ain FC (Egypt), New York Cosmos (USA), Arab Contractors (UAE) and a host others.
The naturally endowed player after hanging his boots as a soccer player has equally been in the helms of affairs as coach for countless number of clubs including Kotoko in the year 1999 and the Ghana senior national team Black Stars in 2000.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with GTV Sports he stressed ”I don’t even remember a coach calling me to teach me the basics in soccer, thus how to control a ball or dribble. It all came just like that, making me a born football talent,” he expressed.”
The ‘will forever admired football genius’ furthermore advised the country’s current football administrators and coaches saying ” the nation’s current crop of players needs to be taught the basic of the game in other to be really active on the field of play,” he said.
The highly talented midfielder had earlier been extensively hailed by premier league outfit Dreams FC’s head coach, Abdul Karim Zito, describing him as a player whose potentials as at his active playing days surpasses that of Barcelona’s dribbling magician Lionel Andre Messi.
Adding to it that one thing the Europeans are beating Africans with, in terms of football is their ability to hype their talents, as Africans are the ones been born with footballing talents but are left in the dark due to their inability to hype the abundant talents they have, unlike the Europeans who go in to learn entirely everything about the game to stand on the turf and perform wonders.
