Asamoah Gyan, captain of the senior national team of Ghana [Black Stars] has declared himself fully fit and ready play for the country at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in June.
The 33-year-old has endured a torrid season with the Turkish side due to recurring of injuries and have enjoyed fewer minutes on the field.
Gyan was dropped from Kwesi Appiah’s squad for the final Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Kenya and the international friendly against Mauritania.
However, the country’s all-time leading goal scorer has returned to the field for the first since he suffered an injury in March while playing for Kayserispor in a friendly game against Adana Demirspor.
‘’By the grace of
God, I am fit now, yesterday I came into the game in the
80th minute and that is good. I am ready for the AFCON.’’ Gyan told Kessben FM
in Kumasi.
‘’Not winning the AFCON is a major worry for us the players. In our private conversation, we the players talk a lot about this AFCON.
‘’I have tried a lot for my country but the biggest legacy I want to leave is winning the AFCON trophy for Ghana.
Gyan however, indicated that he has absolute confidence in the leadership of the Ghana football Association and the Sports Ministry in putting measures in place to ensure the team’s success in Egypt.
He says “I have confidence in leadership to put measures in place to ensure that bonus issues will not be a hindrance at the AFCON”.
Ghana have been drawn in Group F alongside title holders Cameroon, Guinea Bissau and Benin.
