Ismaily midfielder Torric Jebrin gives his thoughts on the Black Stars’ crucial World Cup Qualifier against Egypt in a few days.
Egypt are set to take on Ghana at Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab stadium in a match that can make or break their hopes of qualifying to Russia 2018. Egypt can go five points clear off the Black Stars if they get the win on the 13th of November after two rounds.
Torric Jebrin is one of several Ghanaians plying his trade in Egypt and is adamant it will not be an easy task to face the Pharaohs.
“Ghana see this as a must win clash. They know they might not be able to afford losing,” Torric toldKingFut.
“We saw the performance in Tamale against Uganda which wasn’t good, even after the match my agent and friends asked me why we were not performing that well,” the 25-year-old continued.
“Ghana can beat Egypt, we have a lot of good, quality players like Asamoah Gyan and Mubarak Wakaso.
When asked if the 6-1 win in Kumasi three years ago will affect the Ghanaians, Torric made it clear that those are two different matches with two different conditions but remained adamant that the Black Stars can get the three points from Alexandria.
Several Ghanaian outlets had reported that Avram Grant was seriously considering calling up some of the players based in Egypt, most notably Torric’s teammate Emmanuel Banahene and Misr Al-Maqassa goalking Nana Poku, something which has not happened as the Black Stars announced their squad with no players from the Egyptian Premier League.
With the last player plying his trade in Egypt called up back in 2008 to the national team, Eric Bekoe of Petrojet, Jebrin has affirmed that some things need to change.
“Of course the national team should have taken a look at us, we have several good players from Ghana playing in Egypt like Nana Poku and Emmanuel Banahene.
“Even when I was on vacation in Ghana doing interviews, I said the same and people were wondering. We should have definitely gotten a look for this match,” Jebrin concluded.
