Senior journalist Jerome Otchere, the Editor of Kotoko Express, has bemoaned the lack of accountability and proper leadership in the football hierarchy of Ghana.
Speaking with Oyerepa FMs Sometymer Otuo Acheampong, the ace sports journalist said, “This is the best Black Stars preparations ever, yes! This is the best preparation we have had since the year 2002. In the last 20 or 21 years, this is the best Black Stars preparations I have seen”. Jerome sounded sarcastic with this comment.
People have complained about the lack of facilities for our national teams and have been grumbling about how dirty Ghana looks. A video has been circulating in which the Black Stars bus conductor was struggling to even see properly due to dust on the road when they were travelling to Abrankese for training.
“One may think I’m been cynical, yes I am been cynical because we learn sense from such situations. The leaders of the country must learn sense from this embarrassment”, added Jerome.
“We have played the situation in Ghana to the naturalised players, I don’t see anything wrong with showing the state of the country to the boys who were not born in Ghana as people are complaining.
“We wouldn’t be begging DR Kwame Kyei for a training facility had our leaders used the money we have gotten from the 4 World Cups attended wisely.
“The government has invested a lot in the Black Stars, FIFA has given us enough money, CAF has also been supporting us financially, and many companies and sponsors have given Ghana enough money for the Black Stars”, continued Jerome.
“We should have had a proper facility by now either in Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi or Obuasi.
Just look at the state of Essipong Stadium. It is good that Ghanaians are talking about it. If I were a player, I would keep quiet, play for the team and just leave quietly because those who have the power to change these things have invested the money for their gains”, concluded Jerome.
The Black Stars was initially scheduled to pitch camp in Johannesburg but the idea was quashed due to incessant complaints from Ghanaians. The training camp was rescheduled to be set up in Kumasi but now the team is training at Nations FC’s home grounds, DR Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese which many see as very embarrassing and disheartening.
