Ghana striker John Antwi and his Pyramids FC team have qualified for the Confederation Cup semi-finals after coming on top against their Nigerian hosts Enyimba FC in the quarter-finals, with a victory in Egypt and a draw in Nigeria.
The Blues went to Nigeria with a major advantage after their showdown on the June 30 Stadium which ended with the Egyptian side’s 4-1 victory.
Enyimba started strong in the second leg, and tried to score an early goal to make their mission easier, but Ahmed El-Shennawy had a brilliant performance between the sticks.
Just after the half-hour mark, in the 33rd minute of the game, Ibrahim Adel broke the deadlock when he took advantage of the Nigerian defense miss pass and scored a long-range shot that found its way to the back of the net.
Even after the frustrating goal to the hosts, the pressure kept on increasing and things got worse with the unfortunate injury to El-Shennawy, the goalkeeper was substituted in the 37th minute.
Two minutes later, Enyimba equalized from another great long-shot to the left of Ekramy to end the first half in a tie.
The second half of the game witnessed unfruitful possession from the Nigerian side, with a few attacks here and there.
No team could score a winning goal, but the draw was more than enough for Pyramids to go one step closer to the title and qualify for the semi-finals.
In their journey to the final, Pyramids will be facing Raja Casablanca in the semi-finals, Raja earned their ticket to the semi-finals after a 4-0 victory against Orlando Pirates in the quarter-finals second leg in Morocco, after a 1-1 draw in South Africa.
Pyramids will host the first leg of the semi-finals in Egypt on June 20, and a week later the Blues will be facing their opponent in Morocco in the second leg.
