New Asante Kotoko signing Johnson Owusu Oppong has promised to give his all for the Porcupine Warriors after sealing what he describes as a “dream move” to the Ghanaian giants.
The former Dreams FC winger joins Kotoko on a two-year contract ahead of the 2025/26 season, becoming one of several new faces recruited to bolster the squad as the club targets domestic and continental success.
Renowned for his flair, quick feet, and attacking instincts, Oppong returns to the Ghana Premier League with a wealth of experience, having previously featured for clubs both locally and abroad.
Speaking to Kotoko’s media team, the 27-year-old acknowledged the expectations that come with playing for a club of Kotoko’s stature but insisted he is fully prepared for the challenge.
“You always feel pressure as a footballer, no matter where you go. I know Kotoko is a very big club and expectations are high, but I’m here to do my best,” he said. “Asante Kotoko means a lot to me, and I’m determined to make a positive impact.”
Oppong rose to prominence during a standout spell at Dreams FC, where he played a key role in the club’s remarkable run to the semi-finals of the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup — a campaign that earned him plaudits for his consistent performances on the continental stage.
In addition to his exploits with Dreams FC, Oppong has spent time in Europe, enjoying four seasons with Portuguese side C.S. Marítimo and later featuring for FC Zlín in the Czech Republic and KF Kukësi in Albania. His international experience is expected to bring maturity and versatility to Kotoko’s flank play.
Head coach Abdul Karim Zito is believed to be excited about Oppong’s arrival as Kotoko prepare to return to continental competition for the first time in two years. The club will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season, and Oppong’s addition adds pace, creativity, and depth to their attacking options.
