Black Stars forward Kamaldeen Sulemana has expressed the team’s strong determination to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Ghana’s hopes of reaching the global tournament were given a major boost following back-to-back victories over Chad and Madagascar during the March international break, as part of Matchday 5 and 6 in the qualification series.
Reflecting on the team’s recent disappointments at the Africa Cup of Nations — where Ghana failed to progress beyond the group stage in both Cameroon and Ivory Coast, and did not qualify for this year’s edition — Sulemana admitted the players accept responsibility and are eager to make amends.
“We also didn’t perform well in the last two AFCON tournaments, so we were hoping to make this year a great one,” he said in an interview with Showmax.
“We as players take the blame and take full responsibility for not qualifying, and we have apologised to the country and our fans.
“We want to do well in the World Cup qualifiers and in the World Cup,” the Southampton winger added.
Ghana cruised past Chad with an impressive 5-0 win, followed by a commanding 3-0 victory over Madagascar. Those results have pushed the Black Stars to the top of Group I with 15 points, reigniting hopes of a fifth appearance at the World Cup.
The team will resume their qualification campaign in September with games against Chad and Mali, before concluding with fixtures against Comoros and the Central African Republic.
