Ghana’s Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed deep disappointment over the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
For the first time in 20 years, Ghana will not be part of Africa’s most prestigious football tournament, which is set to take place in Morocco later this year. The Black Stars endured a difficult qualifying campaign, finishing at the bottom of Group F with just three points from six matches.
Addressing the team’s poor performance, Kofi Adams, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for the Buem constituency, stressed that the absence of the four-time African champions from AFCON is a major setback.
“It doesn’t speak well that the African continent will meet for a football competition and Ghana isn’t there,” he told Sporty FM.
With their AFCON hopes dashed, the Black Stars must now shift focus to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which resume in March. Ghana will face Chad and Madagascar in crucial Matchday 5 and 6 fixtures as they aim to secure a spot at the global tournament.
