President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has responded calmly to recent public comments made by Eddie Nketiah regarding his willingness to play for Ghana. While the Crystal Palace forward expressed interest in representing the Black Stars, Okraku made it clear that the decision rests entirely with the national team’s technical team.
Nketiah, who has previously turned down several approaches from the GFA, reignited conversations about his international future during an appearance on The Beautiful Game podcast. He explained his earlier preference to play for England, but noted he is now open to a Ghana call-up:
“When I was growing up, coming through the youngsters here playing for England at that point made sense. But if Ghana calls me up, I’ll be there.”
These comments have recently gained attention again in Ghanaian media, sparking renewed debate over whether the Black Stars should pursue the striker.
Reacting to the development in an interview with Original FM and TV, Kurt Okraku made it clear that player selection is not within his jurisdiction:
“It’s not my call. I’ve not heard. It’s the coach and his backroom staff who decide whoever deserves to play for our Black Stars. No one has spoken to me concerning Eddie Nketiah being available.”
With Ghana preparing for vital 2026 World Cup qualifying matches, Nketiah’s potential addition could strengthen the squad, especially in attack. However, his current form—just one goal and one assist in 25 Premier League appearances—raises questions about whether he meets the technical team’s expectations.
Now, the focus shifts to Black Stars coach Otto Addo and his staff, who must decide if Nketiah’s presence would benefit the team moving forward.
