St. Gallen destroyed Austria Lustenau 5-0 in a friendly contest on 21 August 2020 at the Kybunpark and Kwadwo Duah who joined St. Gallen last month from FC Wil 1900 registered his first goal for his new club on Friday night as the Swiss side prepares for the new season where they will also play in the Europa League.
Duah holds dual citizenship of Ghana and Switzerland according to transfermarkt.com and the 23-year old has played for the latter’s youth teams but can still represent the Black Stars if he wishes.
The match also saw another Ghanaian international goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi in the starting line-up of Gallen manager Peter Zeidler as Zigi kept a clean sheet before he was substituted after the break.
In the first test match after the short summer break FC St.Gallen 1879 prevailed against the Austrian second division team Austria Lustenau with an emphatic 5-0 and Ghana’s Duah scored the 5th goal in the 55th minute.
The two new strikers Florian Kamberi and Kwadwo Duah who scored their first goals for our St. Gallen made a promising debut.
A summary of the match report on St Gallen website reads : “The obvious plan of coach Peter Zeidler was not to lose momentum. Despite the test game character, he let those players appear first who were already part of the regular formation at the end of the season. The goal guarantors Demirovic and Itten were replaced by André Ribeiro and Angelo Campos. The two did what you’d expect from a striker. They scored an early (7th) and a decisive (31st) goal for St.Gallen, who were superior from the start.
Ribeiro headed to 1-0 and Campos after a through pass with a precisely processed low shot towards the wide inside post. With their usual offensive game, flanked by early pressing, the St.Gallers presented the Lustenau with not insoluble, but big problems.”
“In the formation of the second half the new signings Kwadwo Duah, Florian Kamberi and goalkeeper Lukas Watkowiak ran for the first time.”
