On 30th October, 2018, the world governing body of football FIFA issued a statement banning former Ghana Football Association President Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi for life from all football related activities.
The ban came after FIFA received a petition from ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his tiger eye who caught Mr. Nyantakyi in camera receiving bribes which is against the ethics of the football rules.
In relation to this, SportsworldGhana.com approached a section of the football fans and sort their assertions on the ban of the former Ghana Football Association president, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi.
Speaking to Mr. David Opoku, a teacher at the Ghana education service, he said that the sanctions given to Mr. Nyantakyi is not enough to equate the mess he has caused.
He explained that Mr. Nyantakyi being a lawyer should have known better.
He further mentioned that if Mr. Nyantakyi is an ignorant of the law, he would have expressed some sort of sympathy for him.
”FIFA should have considered all his credentials and impose heavy fine on him,”. He lamented.
”We must do away with these things to see our game canker free,” He added.
The SRC vice president of Mampong Technical College of Education, Aboagye Amos also has the view that the said life time ban given to Mr. Nyantakyi is a standard one.
He explained that, in FIFA’s own wisdom and their constitutions relating the punishments is what they considered to issue those sanctions against Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi.
”The Fifa ethics committee knows best and had thoroughly investigated the evidence provided to them by Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his tiger eye and has handed a well deserved sanctions against the former GFA president,” He stressed.
”We are all learning from Mr. Nyantakyi’s issue as student’s. He added.
On his part, another student from Mampong Technical College of Education, Anthony Osei said that, the fine given to Mr. Nyantakyi is not enough to cover the wrong doings of the former GFA boss.
According to him, what baffles him most is that, there is no section in the letter which indicates when Mr. Nyantakyi is supposed to pay the money and if he fails to pay by then, what happens?’.
”FIFA should come out and explain to us what happens if in case Mr. Nyantakyi either fails to pay or delays payment,” He lamented.
”I want to see heavy fine than what has been given him if he appeals against the initial decisions,”.
The discussion is still on going and what the football fans are now waiting for is to see if the former GFA president, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi will indeed appeal against FIFA’s decision or will go ahead to pay the 500,000 CHF.
