Ghana’s third division outfit Bafaga Rainbow Sporting Club, have reported Ghanaian referee John Kwame Ansah to the Ghana Football Association following his engagement in player transfer.
The refereeing institution in the football-craze West African nation is still in its recovery state following the Anas expose back in 2018 which placed the complicity of officials and the jaw-dropping levels of corruption in the most-followed sport in the country under the microscope.
The documentary only confirmed and gave more substance to the already questionable behavior of match officials in games and the Normalization Committee which ushered in the Kurt Okraku-led Ghana Football Association into power was supposed to have led to a changed attitude to repose confidence in the eyes of the average football fanatic.
However, while many attempts have been made by the football association to polish and instill discipline into a tarnished profession, some individuals, who are supposed to be the upholders of the laws of the game are the very ones making a nuisance of it.
The Kumasi-based referee recently officiated a game between Kwabreibrem and former Ghana Premier League side Inter Allies on matchday two of the ongoing Division One League.
This should be his norm, however, what raises eyebrows is actually is his direct involvement in the day-to-day administration of a football club which contravenes his role as a match official.
Referee John Ansah allegedly runs Division Two League side Thunderbolt FC and has been involved in the transfers and registration of players for the club as a recognized official at the Ashanti Region Football Association (ARFA).
His nonchalant duality has rendered his refereeing career dormant in the region with the ARFA not allowing him to officiate games.
His involvement in the day-to-day administration of a football club and his original role as a center referee is a recipe for disaster, an affront to fairness in the sport, and a wrong precedent that needs to be nipped in the bud before it festers and becomes the order of the day.
Again according to trusted sources, referee Ansah threatened officials of Bafaga Rainbow SC at their training grounds while calling the bluff of the Ghana Football Association President Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku, bragging with pomposity he is a touch-not-entity in the football industry.
This has led to Third Division outfit Bafaga Rainbow SC reporting this situation to the Ghana Football Association to address this with alacrity.
